Survivors of Hunain shut themselves in the fortress of Ta’if. The Muslims besiege it for 10 to 20 days (the book notes the length is disputed), and the twenty-three men who come down from it are declared free. Asked to invoke Allah against Thaqif, the Prophet ﷺ prays instead: “O Allah, guide Thaqif and bring them to us as Muslims.”
