Small patrols ride out to watch the Quraish trade routes and make pacts with nearby tribes. The first, under Hamzah in Ramadan 1 A.H., ends without fighting; the Prophet ﷺ himself leads out to al-Abwa’ (Waddan), Buwat and Dhul-‘Ushairah, making non-aggression pacts with Banu Damrah and Banu Mudlij.
