Given leave after the Second Pledge, the believers slip away to Madinah in groups, often losing everything: Suhaib gives up all his wealth to be allowed to go. Earlier, Abu Salamah had gone ahead, and his wife Umm Salamah was kept from him and their son for a year. Soon only the Prophet ﷺ, Abu Bakr, ‘Ali and those held back remain in Makkah.
