Early in Safar he visits the martyrs of Uhud to pray for them. Returning from a funeral at al-Baqi’, he falls ill with headache and fever and moves to ‘Aishah’s room. He leads the prayers for eleven days while ill; four days before his death he asks Abu Bakr to lead them instead.
