Abu Talib, who had protected him for forty years, dies; the book’s main report places this six months after the boycott ended. At his bedside the Prophet ﷺ urges him to declare that there is no god but Allah, but Abu Jahl and another chief press him to keep the religion of ‘Abdul-Muttalib, and he dies on it.
