The Prophet ﷺ marches on Makkah with 10,000 men, keeping the plan secret. Abu Sufyan accepts Islam at Marr az-Zahran, and those who stay in their homes, in the Sacred Mosque or in Abu Sufyan’s house are promised safety. The army enters with little resistance, apart from a clash on Khalid’s flank. The Prophet knocks down the 360 idols at the Ka’bah, reciting “Truth has come and falsehood has vanished”, Bilal gives the call to prayer from its roof, and he tells Quraish, in the words of Joseph to his brothers: “No reproach on you this day.”
As the book dates it: set out 10 Ramadan, 8 A.H.; left Marr az-Zahran for Makkah on the morning of Tuesday 17 Ramadan
