The Prophet ﷺ sends Abu Bakr to lead the pilgrimage. The opening of Surah Bara’ah (at-Tawbah) is then revealed, and ‘Ali follows to proclaim it, ending the covenants with the idolaters after a four-month respite. Abu Bakr has it announced that from now on no idolater may perform the pilgrimage and no one may circle the Ka’bah naked.
As the book dates it: Dhul-Qa’dah or Dhul-Hijjah, 9 A.H.
